If you love golf and you are tired of cold, grey winters at home, there is a quiet corner of south-eastern Spain that deserves your attention. The Region of Murcia — and its coastline, the Costa Cálida, or “Hot Coast” — has become one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, and it is still far less crowded than the better-known Costa del Sol.
Here is why so many golfers from Iceland, Germany, the UK and Scandinavia keep coming back.
Sunshine almost all year round
Murcia enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of around 19 °C. While much of northern Europe is dark and frozen, you can play a comfortable round here in shorts in January. The best golfing months run from autumn through spring — exactly when you most want to escape the cold.
Great courses, all close together
Within a 50-kilometre radius you will find around 19 quality courses within easy reach. Names like Roda Golf, La Serena Golf and the Jack Nicklaus-designed – La Torre Golf , Hacienda Riquellme Golf, El Valle Golf , Saurines de la Torre Golf , etc. – give you real variety, from relaxed golf courses beside the Mar Menor sea to genuine championship tests. You can play a different course each day without long drives.
Golf in the morning, the sea in the afternoon
Murcia is compact in the best way. You can tee off in the morning, have lunch by the Mediterranean, and still have time to relax. The pace is calm, the food is excellent and good value, and Alicante airport — with direct flights from across northern Europe — is an easy transfer away.
A friendlier, less crowded alternative
Murcia offers the same climate and quality of golf as more famous destinations, but with fewer crowds and more reasonable prices. For couples and small groups who want good golf without the rush, that combination is hard to beat.
Easy to organise — if you have someone local
The one thing that turns a good trip into a great one is having someone local take care of the details: airport pickup, the right hotel, green fees, transfers between courses and coaching when you want it. That is exactly what we do. You bring your clubs; we handle the rest.
